Bone Broth

Bone Broth

This time honoured tradition has immense health and beauty benefits.  It has been used as food and in healing remedies for more than a thousand years.  Earliest recorded broth dates as far back as A.D. 1000!

A bone broth is simply a stock. It has been used in healing remedies for more than a thousand years.
The  2 key reasons to consume bone broth are :
1. Bioavailable collagen. After age 40,  the production of collagen begins to decline
2. Bioavailable nutrients. Offering pre digested nutrients which make them easier to absorb

Bioavailable collagen: Think healthy skin, hair, nails.  It also strengthens muscles, aids cell growth and supports the integrity of the digestive  system.

Bioavailable nutrients: The long cooking times provide predigested nutrients making it easier for your body to assimilate and absorb them.  These include rapidly digestible proteins, vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids.

Simmer bone broth for about 4 - 6 hours, depending on the bones used.  The final result should be a clean tasting broth that can be enjoyed on its own or as a base for the most wonderful winter warming soups.

2 Kg Raw Beef Bones (must be organic and/or grass fed beef)

Organic chicken carcass (optional)

2 carrots

1 celery

1 brown onion

1/4 cup organic apple cider vinegar (this assists in leaching minerals from the bone)

1 bunch parsley

Water to cover

ADD all ingredients to the pot and bring to boil.  Simmer for 4-5 hours with lid on. Skim top regularly.  Strain your broth and cool.  Season to taste.  Refrigerate for 3-4 days or alternatively freeze in individual portions for later use.
